Colombian Culinary Journey: "Arepas del Mar y la Sierra"
While traveling through Colombia, I embarked on an unforgettable culinary adventure from the vibrant Caribbean coast to the lush mountains of the Sierra Nevada. In a small fishing village near Santa Marta, I met Doña Rosa, a kind-hearted cook who invited me into her rustic kitchen. She prepared a dish that perfectly captured the essence of Colombia: Arepas del Mar y la Sierra.
She combined fresh seafood from the Caribbean with ancestral flavors from the mountains, crafting a dish that merged land and sea. The arepas, made from yellow corn, were grilled over a wood fire, filled with garlic-sauteed shrimp and a creamy coconut sauce infused with local spices. To complete the experience, she served them with a tangy green mango and cilantro salad, echoing the region’s vibrant flavors.
As the sun set over the coast, I savored each bite, understanding that this dish was more than just food—it was a story of Colombia’s rich diversity and warm hospitality.
